Kekerengu Cottage is located in the Kekerengu Valley, Marlborough, South Island, New Zealand.
We are
situated halfway between Blenheim and Kaikoura . Turn off SH1 at
Kekerengu, and just a short drive down
the country road you will arrive at Kekerengu Station where the Cottage is
situated.
Heading
from Blenheim:
The last place to find a
super market is Blenheim; New World is on the right when heading through town on
State highway 1, just after the railway crossing roundabout. This is open 7 days
a week. Keeping on the same road and direction you will be out of town towards
Kekerengu, Kaikoura and Christchurch.
About 15 minutes out of town you drive through Seddon. There is a small general
Store on the left for forgotten shopping items.
Ward is the next village and here there are a two eating places – the Ward pub
that does good bar meals and takeaways and the Flaxbourne
petrol station which has great pies and sandwiches. This is the only petrol station between
Blenheim and
Kaikoura and is the one nearest to Kekerengu (about 15 minutes drive). Beware
though - it shuts about 7pm. They also carry drinks, snacks and basic food items,
and rent videos.
Heading from
Kaikoura:
The last place to find a
super market is Kaikoura, a New World which is open 7 days, This is on the main
road (State highway 1). New World is on the right hand side of the road heading towards Kekerengu, Blenheim and Picton. This
is the last town you can buy petrol before you get to Kekerengu. On the way
up to Kekerengu you can buy cooked crays from the roadside vendors on both left
and right going through Waipapa Bay. Don’t forget to look out for seals also.
They bask on the rocks where the road is close to the sea. There are viewing
points to pull off the road so no need to stop at dangerous roadside places.
